Happy June 1st everyone. I am writing this in a word document because my lovely computer doesn't want to connect to the internet so one day when it decides to behave these will be updated. Anyway, I couldn't sleep last night so I was up until 4:30 am and had to wake up at 7:45 for breakfast. I wasn't that tired actually until the end part of the day. Its about 9:30 here now and I am going to bed! All the interns were exhausted tonight though just from being out in the sun all day. So what we did today was....
This morning we ate and then had an orientation with Tim (the missionary) which was wonderful of course. He is HILARIOUS. Seriously hysterical. So we did orientation and we talked about what our purpose was for being here or just for life in general. I didn't really say much because I've been on this giving God glory kick all week so I decided to tone it down a little bit and just kind of listen to what other people had to say. So people gave great answers and really heart felt, and none really had to do with the God's glory. Tim started explaining how all of those answers were great and how they work into our plan for life but they aren't the central purpose. Guess what it was. 1 Corinthians 10:31. What does that say you might ask... “So whether you ear or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”... that was his answer...Thats why were are here. God made us so that we may praise and glorify his name here on Earth, but because of the fall we are battling with three different things for our attentions. Our own because we are selfish people, satans because he sucks and Gods. Who am I going to glorify with my life? Myself, satan or God. Tough one right? We sure live like it is.
After orientation we had a little down time and B Holler unpacked and we took some Jesus Fan pics (shout out to my brothers and sisters of the clan), and then we were off to visit the local ministries that we will be working alongside for the summer. We went to the mobile medical clinic which was pretty amazing. The facilities are gorgeous and God has truly had his hand in the ministries here in Gabon. We also got to see the bookstore the Alliance runs which is the largest bible bookstore in Gabon, and we bought french bibles :). After that we visited a prenatal care hospital which also has the best lab in Gabon, so they are working to expand their facilities. We then went back to the compound and walked around for a little bit into town. They have a system here where you buy pop and when you are finished you take the bottle back and they will trade you the bottle for more pop so you aren't paying for the glass bottle again so its super cheap. We tried to get some Beneas(NO idea how to spell that, but its those donuts things) but it was to early in the day I guess? We couldn't find any. So we went back to the compound and played mad gab which was soooo funny. We were all just about getting tired so it was getting ridiculous! We also had a birthday party to go to tonight for another missionary's son who turned 10. The dinner was fantastic and it was just a nice down time to talk and relax. We just got back and im heading to bed!

mariah - i am loving this! i know more about what you are doing now (when you are in stinking africa) than i did when you were around the corner from me! :) love you so much and i am soooooo proud to call you my friend! have a fabulous night of sleep!!!
ReplyDeletemariah, i am so amazed at what god is showing you... i am starting to be okay with not doing every single thing wiht you (as okay as you can get lol) but i just wish we could have our nights again and go over the day... dang i cant wait to live with you again! Praise God for all the he is showing you, all the ways he is breaking you, and how he has reminded you not to take the blessing and keep it to yourself, but that you are pouring it out on his people reading it... i am really hoping not to be proving your point with the half humbleness thing lol...
ReplyDeleteFun times in Gabon! Nothing like getting out of the States to make you appreciate the simple pleasures of community. Reading your entry it sounds like you have a good guide in Tim. When you have a good guide you feel the country like a native and not like a tourist. That's the best! You'll never forget what you are living. It's like a footprint in cement it lasts forever. Thanks for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteStill praying for you.
Be safe.
love, your future mother-in-law :-)
